Radiesse is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to safely and effectively add volume where needed to your face. Ideal Candidates for Radiesse

Women and men who are in good overall health and want to correct their mild to moderate wrinkles and lines are ideal patients for Radiesse treatments. It can improve marionette lines, smile lines, chin wrinkles, pre-jowl folds, and fine lines that form in the edges of the lips. Radiesse is also designed to treat age-related volume loss in the hands to help them appear fuller and more youthful.

  • For the Face – When Radiesse is injected below the skin’s surface, it forms a “scaffold” to support and stimulate the growth of your own collagen to replenish lost facial volume and rebuild your skin’s foundation to restore your youthful look.
  • For the Hands – Loss of volume in hands makes veins and tendons more visible. Radiesse replenishes the volume in hands, giving them a more youthful and natural-looking appearance.

You shouldn't receive this treatment if you have an allergy to lidocaine or other ingredients in Radiesse. Be sure to talk to your injector if you have any allergies (whether mild or severe) and any relevant medical history. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, might be pregnant, or are trying to conceive in the next several years, you shouldn't get Radiesse injections.

Procedure Technique for Radiesse

Radiesse wrinkle injections are performed in a treatment room at Ocean Plastic Surgery Center in around 30 – 60 minutes once you have completed your consultation. To start the procedure, you will lay in a relaxed position as the injection sites are cleaned and marked. Many patients feel tolerable discomfort throughout the procedure and at the first prick, but if preferred, a local anesthetic may be spread on the treatment sites. The Radiesse dose, determined during your consultation, will be placed in a fine needle. The pre-marked site of injection will help the injector to carefully administer Radiesse into the needed areas. As soon as the treatment is done, a compress will be held to the treated areas to reduce bruising and swelling.

What to Expect from Radiesse

Following your Radiesse injection, you may have mild redness, swelling, and bruising. This is normal and should last for around a week. These side effects can typically be camouflaged with cosmetics. If the bruising, swelling, or redness lasts longer than ten days, or if you are concerned, please contact Ocean Plastic Surgery Center. Many patients have visible results minutes after the treatment with their final results appearing in a month or so. Your face will look softer, younger, and lifted. Radiesse typically lasts longer than other dermal fillers — about 1 – 2 years. You can talk to your injector at your appointment about how soon to get your next injection to touch-up your results.

Frequently Asked Questions for Radiesse

How much does Radiesse cost?

As with most injectable treatments, the cost of your procedure will be determined by how many syringes you will need to fulfill your desired goals. When you come in for a consultation, we can determine how many you will need and then talk about your expected costs.

How is Radiesse different than other fillers?

Radiesse is uniquely composed of calcium-based microspheres that are able to naturally stimulate collagen production. Other popular fillers include collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, and the heaviest of the fillers, PMMA. No other fillers are made of these microspheres; however, Radiesse is similar to other hyaluronic acid injectable fillers because of its collagen stimulation. Radiesse is also notable for having results that last a bit longer than other injectables — up to a full year.

Does Radiesse have any possible side effects?

Radiesse does have a few mild side effects, which typically go away within a few days. These include slight redness, some bruising, numbness, and itching. Radiesse rarely has any severe side effects.

Can I combine Radiesse with other injections or treatments?

It is very common for our patients to combine Radiesse injections with other dermal fillers or muscles relaxants. To achieve optimal results, you may choose to combine your Radiesse injections with BOTOX or Dysport. At your consultation, talk to your injector about which other treatments might work well for your desired results.

Will it hurt?

Most of our patients report feeling very little discomfort during the procedure. In general, we find it unnecessary to use any numbing agent prior to injections; however, we can provide a local anesthetic if you are concerned about feeling the procedure.
