Plastic Surgeons Report Two Distinct Body Restoration Patterns as Demand for Mommy Makeover Surgery Evolves
Pregnancy and major weight loss produce different anatomy, even when patients request the same operation. Dr. Raman Mehrzad explains why GLP-1 medications are changing body contouring plans.

Ocean Plastic Surgery Center was featured in July 2026 coverage about two separate groups of patients now arriving for the same request. This page summarizes that coverage and explains how the difference changes surgical planning.
One label, two very different patterns
The term mommy makeover describes a combination of procedures, not a diagnosis. According to Dr. Raman Mehrzad, a patient after pregnancy and a patient after major weight loss may both benefit from abdominal and breast surgery, yet the reasons differ and so does the plan.
After pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy most often stretches the abdominal wall, separates the abdominal muscles, changes breast volume after breastfeeding, and leaves localized excess skin. Because those changes concentrate in the abdomen and breasts, appropriately selected patients may be candidates for a single-stage plan combining a tummy tuck with a breast lift or implants.
After major weight loss
Patients who have lost a substantial amount of weight tend to present with a wider pattern. Years of skin expansion followed by rapid reduction can leave loose tissue across the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, back, flanks, buttocks, and thighs. Planning then reaches beyond a traditional mommy makeover and may involve staged procedures such as an arm lift or thigh lift, sequenced to keep operative time and recovery reasonable.
The GLP-1 effect
The practice reports more consultations from patients who lost weight using GLP-1 medications. Many arrive unsure whether a mommy makeover is the right framework or whether post-weight-loss body contouring is the better description of what they need. Patients still working toward a goal weight can review the medically supervised weight loss program before scheduling surgery.
What the evaluation covers
Assessment includes weight stability, body mass index, skin quality, tissue elasticity, previous abdominal surgery, pregnancy history, distribution of excess skin, breast anatomy, overall health, and expected recovery. Those factors determine whether procedures can be combined safely or whether staging is the better option.
